Luis F. Lara, M.D.Lara

Dr. Lara is board certified in Internal Medicine - Gastroenterology. He received his medical degree from Instituto Tecnogico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey (ITESM) Escuela de Medicina "Ignacio A. Santos" (EMIS) Hospital San Jose-Tec de Monterrey, Monterrey, N.L., Mexico. Dr. Lara completed a fellowship in Gastroenterology at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC and an advanced fellowship in Pancreatology at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. He finished his internal medicine training at Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine.

Dr. Lara's clinical interests include the diagnosis and management of acute, chronic, and hereditary pancreatitis as well as pancreas cysts, and pancreatic cancer. He has special interests in autoimmune pancreatitis, pancreas islet transplantation, establishing novel endoscopic pancreas function testing, acute and chronic GI bleeding, and evaluation of small bowel disease.

Dr. Lara has been involved in academic interests and has numerous publications. He has presented his work and has been a guest speaker in national and international forums. His research interests include:

    • Pancreatic cancer detection
    • Acute pancreatitis therapy
    • Diagnosis of chronic pancreatitis
    • Pancreas function testing
    • Endoscopic management of acute and chronic gastrointestinal bleeding
    • Therapeutic/interventional endoscopy and enteroscopy
