Preparing for your endoscopy procedure

   Notify your health care provider if you are currently taking Coumadin, blood thinners or insulin for further instructions.


   Please remember to arrange for a responsible adult to accompany you home.  If you do not have an adult escort, your procedure will be cancelled and re-scheduled. A responsible adult must escort you home.


Review preparation schedule below for 5 days preceding your colonoscopy.

5 days prior 3 days prior 2 days prior 1 day prior Procedure Day

Arrange a ride (see above).

Insurance Cards: Check with your insurance carrier in advance to see if you need pre-approval for an outpatient appointment or procedure.  It is important that you understand your financial responsibility.

If taking Coumadin you need to hold for 3-5 days.  Contact your Primary Care Physician.

If you are diabetic, contact your Primary Care Physician or Endocrinologist for specific instructions.

Confirm your ride home.

Do you have an escort to drive you home?

No solid foods after midnight.

Clear liquids after dinner at 6 pm.

Text Box: Clear Liquid Diet Suggestions    Strained fruit juices (no pulp); apple, white grape, broth, water, Gatorade, popsicles, Jell-O, coffee, tea (no milk or cream).

Early morning – take your usual prescribed medications with a few sips of water.

Be sure to bring: Ride, Insurance Card, Co-pay, if required.

Clear liquids OK up to 6 hours before procedure.

Leave jewelry, money and other valuables at home.

Allow 2-4 hours in our department.
