Patients with a variety of complex bile duct and pancreatic problems, Barretts esophagus, or large colon polyps or tumors can benefit from endoscopic and colonoscopic interventions. Dr. Lara peforms advanced endoscopic procedures, including endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) enabling the diagnosis of problems in the liver, gallbladder, bile ducts, and pancreas. He is also actively participating in novel endoscopic approaches to improve diagnosis such as:

• Spiral Enteroscopy - an antegrade and a retrograde procedure that allows for improved pathologic diagnosis and therapeutic interventions on the small bowel in a safe and time efficient manner.
• "Third-eye" Retroscope - provides an additional retrograde view of the colon that illuminates blind spots in the colon for improved visualization for the physician. Because folds within the colon often prevent seeing around the bend, a new device called the Third Eye Retroscope has just been approved by the FDA. The device attaches to colonoscopes and acts like a rear view mirror, helping to avoid missed polyps and/or tumors within the colon.
